The Travelers have been exploring biographies in Social Studies. We compared and contrasted the biographies of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, Helen Keller and Louis Braille, Vincent Van Gogh and Pablo Picasso, and Ezra Jack Keats and Dr. Seuss. The students were so enamored with the study of biographies that they formed interest-based book clubs to further explore a famous person of choice. Students worked in small groups to read several books about that person, noting the important information that they learned. Students then categorized their information into different categories that each answer a different question about that person. Using the iPads and the app Book Creator, students recorded themselves interviewing their character and shared with their audience what they learned.
